The origin of SangReal dates back to 1991, when Ángel Luis Margüello began his professional journey in Ribera del Duero. From that moment, he started to understand and interpret the vineyard and its potential for creating great wines. Years later, he realized that his ancestors possessed profound knowledge, despite the lack of formal academic training in their time. This realization led him to search for abandoned vineyards—places where vines, forgotten by time and man, had silently survived. These vineyards, many featuring old and rare grape varieties, were scattered across lands neglected for decades.
The Name
“SangReal” is inspired by the legendary Holy Grail, the chalice that, according to tradition, contained a sacred elixir granting eternal life. Like the Grail, our resurrected vineyards represent a rediscovered treasure—a source of life and purity that has withstood the test of time. The legend of the Holy Grail, with its aura of mystery and connection to eternity, is reflected in every bottle of SangReal, making this wine an almost mystical experience.
Concept
The concept of SangReal revolves around the idea of “resurrectio,” the resurrection of forgotten vineyards and the rediscovery of their oenological potential.
